How much support should a Franchisor provide?

It seems there is no standard answer on this one…

Speaking to two different franchisors of emerging brands this week, their view was:

  • We’ll provide the leads,

  • We’ll provide the training,

  • We’ll provide the bookkeeping,

  • We just want them to do the work.

On the other hand, there are other brands who say:

  • We’ll train and support you,

  • We’ll give you the marketing material,

  • Go and find your own leads,

  • Use your own bookkeeper,

  • Manage your own BAS, Tax and financial position.

So, for some brands, the franchise is really just an extension of their own operations, basically more arms and legs.

But for others, there are those who really do help their franchisees set up and build their own business. Who actually want them to go to the next level.

There is no right or wrong with this. That’s the beauty of franchising.

But the difference is significant.

And it will impact your whole business model, your recruitment process and selection of your target franchisee.
